B Corp Status

Attention Higgidy lovers – we have some exciting news! As a company that cares, we not only aim to provide you with glorious feel-good food, but we also want to make a positive difference to the world around us, from our Higgidy people, to the wider community, and the environment.

So, without further ado, we are delighted to announce that we have been awarded B Corp Certification!

So, what does this mean?

What is B Corp?

B Corp is all about changing the way businesses do business. Being certified means we’ve been recognised as meeting high standards for both our people and the planet in 5 core areas. These include how we treat our workers, our customers and the environment.

Achieving top marks across all these areas demonstrates a real force for good, but the good doesn’t stop here! Now that we’re certified, we’ll continue to assess our performance and improve, because it’s not just about being accredited – it helps us to change the way we do business and is all about balancing purpose and profit whilst considering our impact in all of our business decisions.

We’re also very excited to join the B Corp community made up of brands that share our vision for better such as, Innocent, Jude’s Ice Cream and BOL.

How are we doing good?

You may only know us for our scrumptious baked goods, but we have also been working hard behind the scenes to make a positive difference with some ongoing projects that have helped us to become a B Corp business.

Higgidy Helping Hand Project

We launched the Higgidy Helping Hand project in March 2020 at the start of the UK lockdown, as a way of helping those in need within our local area of East and West Sussex.

Since the launch, we’ve teamed up with 11 incredibly special charity networks such as Safehaven, a charity who provide accommodation and support to vulnerable individuals, and Brighton Unemployed Centre Families Project supporting a range of those in need.

We’ve also continued our support of Fareshare – a charity who are dedicated to fighting hunger and food waste.
Each week we’ve packaged up goodie bags filled with our pies and quiches, as well as other gifts from our partner brands that have been generously donated. These brands include Jude’s, Cawston Press, Foodini Club and Edgcumbes Coffee Roaster to name a few.

So far, we’ve provided over 41,000 meals which not only have been delivered by our amazing charity networks, but also by the Higgidy team. From our volunteers who pack and deliver the donations directly to people’s doors, to the drivers who give up their time to deliver them to foodbanks for those in need.

Green Beans Team

The Green Beans Team is a group of Higgidy staff members who are committed to championing sustainability across the business. Their goal is to discuss and implement changes which help us to reduce our impact on the environment, support our local communities and to generally do all that we can to make a positive difference. Some of these discussions have included reducing our use of paper, installing electric vehicle charging points and further ideas to donate to charity.

Moving Forward

Our pledge to do good doesn’t stop here! We plan on continuing to develop and improve in any way we can. One particular step we’ve taken is by welcoming our new Sustainability Manager, Megan, to our team. She is absolutely committed to steering Higgidy in the right direction on the road to being kinder to the planet. This is a new position for us and we believe it will help take Higgidy to the next level and drive us forwards towards some ambitious targets, particularly around the carbon we emit, the resources we use and the things we throw away.

We will also always continue to donate any surplus pies and quiches to charities, helping to tackle food waste and ensure that we support vulnerable people and communities in Sussex.

With our internal vision to do good, mixed with the strengths of being within the like-minded B Corp community, we really believe that we can help make the world a better, kinder and more environmentally conscious place.
