Here we have gathered a small selection of some of our favourite higgidy poems sent in by you. We very much hope you enjoy them...
I had a dream, it was a pure delight;
I was in need of a snack one wintry night!
To my refrigerator I softly crept,
While all around me gently slept
I opened the door and on the shelf
Sitting proudly; by itself
Was my dream, I shed a tear
My perfect, perfect, cornucopia
There, perfect in the round,
The gourmet dish had I found!
Before my eyes, a Higgidy Quiche?
Oh so tempting and within my reach.
I saw a sweet, tomato layer;
And offered up a thankful prayer.
As scattered around; oh what a prize
Chilli, chilli met my eyes.
Red and green, all the hues
My eyes and brain were infused
With tastes to come and pleasures spent.
I cut a slice, a small segment.
Upon a mild and cheesy base
Oh such pleasures will I embrace
Upon my lips; oh the heat and cold
The sweet, sweet fruit and chilli bold
But, before I fulfil my fervent wish
I wake and gone is my special dish
My heart is broken, my taste buds too
So Higgidy, my sanity is now down to you?
Can you make a dream come true?
Can you please, perfection pursue?
Can you make this fellahs wish
And create a tomato & chilli dish?
Whilst shopping for some veggie fare
Something tasty I did spy
In amongst the chiller shelves
A box did catch my eye
I picked it up to read about
The contents held inside
And soon my mouth was watering
This cannot be denied
Full of fab ingredients
Like mushrooms, spinach, feta
Encased in all butter pastry
Well it just couldn’t get any better
So I put it in my basket
As I couldn’t wait to try
A bit of veggie heaven
A Little Mushroom and Leaf Spinach Pie
So I cooked it for my tea
And I recommend you try it
It really is delicious
So get down that shop and buy it!
Stop the press. Hold the front page
Have I discovered the latest craze?
It is Nirvana, oh, ‘tis Paradise;
The unctuously gorgeous, Higgidy Slice.
Higgedy Piggedy – from fell to fen,
Yummy pies for ladies and gentlemen.
A treat we all love again and again;
Whether your name’s Barbara or if it is Ben!
Higgedy Piggedy-happy are we,
When we are having you for our tea.
Some in the mountains, some by the sea,
Merry eaters of pies are we!
Higgedy Piggedy – no need to ask why,
You are our favourite purveyors of pie.
Away, away, to the grocer am I,
Some Higgedy dainties for to buy!
O’h little Higgidy Pie
I loved your taste
I ate it all
There was no waste
The taste was
something really new
The next time out
I shall buy two.
My wife has died, and at eighty-five
I’ve learned to cook to keep alive.
Novice at cooking I might have been,
At supermartket shopping I am quite keen.
Discovering quiches with the higgidy label
They quickly appeared upon my table.
There’s a moral in this tale, sans doubt:
For culinary bliss, higgidy carries some clout.
For family and friends they bring delight.
Higgidy – keep cooking with all your might!
I really like spinach! I cannot deny
I like it in salad or cooked in a pie.
I’d happily eat spinach for three meals a day,
But it's still not as nice as a mushroom I’d say.
For wild and cloudy Autumn skies
For tasty hot Higgidy pies
For golden leaves and crisp cold days
With grateful hearts, our thanks we raise!
For mushroom, spinach, tasty cheese
For Higgidies that aim to please
For tasty food on wintry days
Our thanks to God, with grateful praise!
For good old-fashioned warming food
For things that really do us good
For all God’s blessings, all our days
Raise up your voice in thankful praise!
Delicious, nutritious, an almighty snack
Taste and flavour, it does not lack
Most appetising any day of the week
Higgidy quiche you are what I seek!
