Higgidy

Too Good for Sharing

by Matt R. on the 6th of April 2012

On the side of a hill, with larks singing in the sky
Sat me dad, me mam, 4 higgidy pies and I.
“We have spinach, pepper, bacon or cheese.
Which one would you like?” dad asked. I said, “all 4 please”
“You shan’t have all 4, but you may still choose one”
“That’s fine”, I replied “I’ll have the fourth when you’ve gone
Back to work tomorrow and I can enjoy it in peace
Without this delicious pastry crumbling past my knees”
Said my mam; “but son, don’t you see the larks must dine too”
“Sod the birds, this is my higgidy. Give them yours if you want to!”
