As the clouds started to gather, and the rain started to fall, we feared the Big Higgidy Lunch would be a washout. Thankfully though St Peter's threw open it's doors to the soggy higgidy picnickers with their baskets and blankets and the afternoon took an unexpected turn...
Warm and dry in the church, the decamped higgidy campers spread out their blankets and tucked into their boxes of pie and salad. To the delight of dozens of waiting children, the bouncy castle was carried inside too and set up by the altar. The winner of the pudding competition was Fiona with her outstanding pavlova but there were a great many honorable mentions. Once judged, the puddings were swiftly dispatched.
For those who stayed till the end, the afternoon was rounded off with a gladiator tournament. As we clobbered each other with great padded sticks we reflected that, without the rain, it wouldn't have been half so much fun.
